Channel 9

High Area Ratio Nozzle Test Stand and Hypersonic Wind Tunnel

Tests of exhaust nozzles with very high area ratios

Hypersonic inlet tests

Channel 9 is a hypersonic test facility currently configured as a high pressure ratio exhaust nozzle thrust stand. The model assembly is supported by a 3-component strain-gage force balance and is isolated from the facility piping by an elastic seal.

Tests of Exhaust nozzles with very high area ratios

  • Pressure Ratios to 100,000
  • Stagnatin Pressure 1200 psia
  • Stagnation Temperature 1200 degrees F
  • Flow Rates to 10 lbs/second
  • Run Times to 30 seconds
  • Flow Surveys, Temperatures, and Heat Transfer Measurements

Hypersonic Inlet Tests

  • 20-inch Diameter Hypersonic Wind Tunnel
  • Stagnation Pressure 2000 psia
  • Stagnation Temperature 3000 degress F
  • Hypersonic Wind Tunnel Nozzles for Mach 7, 11, and 14
